Electron Clouds
An electron cloud, which is associated with an atomic orbital, is a term used to indicate the region of negative charge surrounding an atomic nucleus. More specifically, this region has a high probability of containing electrons. Lauren was drawn to the idea of electron clouds because of how it contrasts with the Bohr model, a planetary model where electrons “orbit” the nucleus. To communicate this contrasting model, a variety of techniques found in abstract expressionism were used to visualize the cloud-like structures electrons occupy in space.
